I live in one of the poorest of the poor countries, in Africa, East Africa. Here is my sad story. I am 37 and facing infertility. I realized that my husband and I might have a problem after trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant for a year. That was in 1991. I consulted a specialist and some tests were done such as an HSG and ultrasounds. As a result of those tests the doctor concluded that everything was fine and that I should just be patient and wait. It was the hardest wait I have ever had. Then early in the morning on December 16th, 1995 I woke up with severe pains. I went to the hospital and the doctor gave me a pregnancy test because I had missed my period that month. The pregnancy test was +, however sadly it was an ectopic pregnancy. My tube and the ectopic pregnancy were removed by laparoscopy. In October 1998 we did another HSG to see if the remaining tube was open. The tube turned out to be blocked and before we got an appointment to unblock it, I conceived again. It was another ectopic pregnancy and when they removed it they severed my tube. I know the tube is damaged if it's there, but I am desperate. Our doctor told me that our only hope to have a child is adoption. I am not ready to try adoption for the time being. Our doctor didn't even mention the possibility of IVF. It's through the Internet that I have learnt about IVF and that I am not alone in this struggle. I know that IVF is very expensive. I wish it could be done here in our country, for I am ready to do anything and save everything that I have to try the magic of IVF. I know I am running out of time because of my age and this is very painful to me. Please help me to decide, and tell me please that one day I can also have a baby of my own.
