It's 11:00 at night and I am exhausted. However, I don't complain for I am the Mommy of 3-year-old boy/girl twins (IVF) and a 20-month-old baby boy (unassisted happy surprise). I would like to share with you my story in the hope that it may help someone out there. My husband and myself went through 1 miscarriage and then 6 years of infertility treatments excluding IVF. We then were told that our only option left was IVF. When we found out about the success rate and COST we became really discouraged. However, through my Irish brother in law we found out about IVF in Ireland. After speaking to my gynecologist here in the U.S. and endocrinologist we decided to have IVF in Ireland. My husband and I decided that we would look at this journey as a vacation and if I happened to get pregnant I would be coming home with a great souvenir. Did I happen to mention that the cost for IVF in the U.S. at the time was between $8,000 and $10,000 dollars compared to Ireland at $1,400. Anyhow, we went to Ireland and I received wonderful care. I left Ireland not knowing if the procedure was successful. 12 days later I took my hpt and it was positive, however I hyperstimulated and was put on bed rest. To my delight I found out I was carrying twins. I went through many frights during my pregnancy including heavy bleeding. However, at the end of this long, hard road I delivered 2 healthy full term babies. Erin (meaning Ireland) 6lbs.13oz. and Matthew (meaning gift from God) 7lbs. I wrote this story to let all of you know that there are so many hurdles to overcome for those who are going through infertility (getting pregnant, getting through the 1st trimester, carrying to term, delivering healthy babies). It sounds like a lot but it is definitely worth it. Just take it one hurdle at a time.
